Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Quanta Computer, a major contract assembler of Apple’s MacBooks, has received the green light to double its total investment in Vietnam to US$240 million.
The company, which operates under an original design manufacturer ( ODM ) model for global brands, secured an amended investment certificate on May 26 to expand its existing facility at My Thuan Industrial Park in Ninh Binh province near Hanoi.
The capital injection will fund the construction of a second manufacturing plant, designated as F2, to scale up the production of laptops, desktops, and electronic components for export, according to the Vietnamese government’s official portal.
Taiwan Stock Exchange-listed Quanta entered Vietnam in May 2023. Its first factory, F1, became operational in 2024 and currently maintains an annual capacity of approximately 4.5 million computers and 1 million electronic components.
The F2 facility is scheduled to begin operations by 2028, increasing the entire complex's maximum annual output to 9 million computers and 1.5 million electronic components.
Prior to the expansion, Quanta had invested around US$120 million into the manufacturing project.
The ramp-up reflects the ongoing diversification of the global electronics supply chain, with tech giants and their manufacturing partners expanding production capacity in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, to mitigate geopolitical and supply-chain risks.
