Nico Torchetti, a long-time senior executive at the Singapore Exchange ( SGX ), has taken up the role of chief operating officer at the Qatar Stock Exchange ( QSE ).
Torchetti announced his move to the Doha-based stock exchange in an update of his LinkedIn profile on November 17. He spent over a decade at SGX as head of operations and market services, overseeing key areas including trading operations, clearing, and post-trade infrastructure during a transformative period for Asian derivatives and securities markets. He left the exchange earlier this year.
The appointment comes as QSE continues to bolster its leadership team with international expertise to support Qatar's ambitions as a growing onshore financial centre, offering attractive incentives like 100% foreign ownership and a competitive tax regime.
Colleagues and industry connections have begun congratulating Torchetti on the move, noting that his deep knowledge of exchange operations across Europe and Asia will be a strong fit for QSE's expansion plans aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Neither QSE nor SGX has issued an official statement on the appointment yet, but sources familiar with the matter confirm Torchetti has already started in the new role.
Torchetti's departure is part of a string of veteran exits at SGX, as reported earlier by The Straits Times, with the exchange grappling with low trading volumes and seeking to attract more listings.
