French lender Crédit Agricole CIB, the corporate and investment banking arm of Crédit Agricole Group, has appointed Oliver Matthew as its head of private capital group for Japan, reporting locally to Benjamin Lamberg, senior country officer for Japan, and functionally to Luyi Shen, the head of private capital group for Asia-Pacific.
Based in Tokyo, Matthew leads the local expansion of the private capital group, the bank’s dedicated global coverage team serving financial sponsors, private equity funds and infrastructure funds.
Mathew has over two decades of financial industry experience in Asia, with deep expertise in Japan’s institutional investment landscape. He joins Crédit Agricole CIB from CITIC CLSA, where he notably served as the head of institutional equities for Japan and as country head for Japan.
The newly created role “underscores its commitment to deepening its local coverage of financial sponsors and private capital funds in one of the world’s most dynamic private equity markets […] and strengthens its ability to support global financial sponsors’ growing focus on Japanese assets in their investment portfolios”.
